A Barrister and Solicitor, commonly referred to as a Lawyer, is not to be confused with a Barrister Sole. A Barrister Sole must take instructions from a Solicitor and not directly from the public. They specialise and appear in Courts and Tribunals.
The New Zealand Law Society is happy to confirm a solicitor's certification should you wish to verify this. The Society may be contacted either via their website www.nz-lawsoc.org.nz or directly at inquiries@lawyers.org.nz
Patrick (Pat) Rotherham - Principal LL.B |
|
Pat was born in Christchurch in the South Island of New Zealand and graduated with a law degree from the University of Canterbury in 1981.
In 1988 Pat joined the now deceased John Irving in partnership at Gough & Irving, the predecessor of today's practice.
Pat is married with two children and his wife Shelly joined Rotherhams Law in a full time office administration and legal assistant role in 1998.
Pat and Shelly view the practice in a holistic way, striving to provide clients with a professional yet enjoyable and trusting relationship with the firm.
Pat is passionate in the areas of business, property acquisitions and sales, asset protection and succession planning and in identifying the interrelationship between them. He has written articles for local organisations and community publications, and gives free presentations on various areas of law to clients as well as to a number of community groups and local retirement villages.
A desire to dismantle the sometimes perceived barriers between lawyers and their clients and bring legal issues to the community's attention, resulted in the opening of a branch office in Kaikoura, which Pat attends regularly. Pat is committed to understanding the needs of the public and to assist business growth through his legal expertise, approachability and genuine interest.
