My partner and I have lived together for 10 months.  Been going out for 6 years and previously lived together.  We bought a house in joint names although I supplied the deposit.  Is my partner entitled to half the deposit if we separate?

As your relationship is a de facto relationship exceeding 3 years (living together for the whole time is no longer required), provided the house has been used by you both as the Family Home, then your partner is entitled to not only half the deposit solely paid by you, but also half of the property's value.  The same principle applies for items of furniture/adornment you put in the home for your joint use.

You can elect to 'contract out' of the Act, where both parties agree.  Your lawyer will assist in this regard.   Where it is possible, protecting your assets prior to commencement of a relationship can be beneficial.  It would be advisable to speak to a lawyer for more detailed advice in any event.
